Sorry for the missed update on Alone and Forgotten! Renee got slammed by a work-related crunch period and I was out of the country/AFK. Alone and Forgotten 14 is going to be the last page of the story, when Renee gets out from under the crunch, but in the meantime we’re going to start running what we have of the next chapter, Hotel, starting tomorrow.
The beautiful chapter cover, Hotel 00, was drawn by the incomparable Der-shing Helmer of The Meek and Mare Internum fame. If you haven’t already read both of those fantastic comics, go do, and then become her Patron!
The first story page, Hotel 01, should go up next Thursday.
With the completion of Golf last week with page 10, we’ll be running the remaining pages of The Only Thing I’m Really Afraid of is the Thought of Dying Here Alone and Forgotten for the next five weeks, starting with today’s Alone and Forgotten 10. If you need a refresher on the short story, you can start here. While Alpha Flag turns into the Renee show for a month, I’ll be hard at work getting ahead on the next chapter: Hotel.
Speaking of which, we’ve got a really exciting guest cover artist lined up for Hotel 00, which we’ll be posting
on July 7th! Which means Hotel 01 will be uploaded the following Thursday, July 14th. Change of plans! I need an extra week to pull some things together, so Hotel 00 will be posted (as scheduled) on July 14th, now, and Hotel 01 will post the following Thursday.
In other news, I’m currently building a Jon Cairns Patreon that’ll launch alongside the new chapter next month, and I’d love your input on what you’d like to see from me for that. The first milestone will be ensuring that Alpha Flag can keep updating 4 times a month, like it has been since our return. After that, what kind of content would you like to see from me (more Untitled SF, Terminal Hair, Shorts, or just more Alpha Flag)? What kind of rewards would interest you? I’m open to all suggestions! I’ve got a pile of my own ideas, but I want to make sure that it represents what you guys want to see, so we can work together to get cool stuff in front of your eyeballs and in your hands.
I’ve added the last few copies of the Beyond anthology that I have on hand to the store, as well as a motivational poster that my friends have been bugging me to print for literally years (the drawing is from 2010–the last thing I inked with a Pentel Color Brush before switching to Kolinsky sable brushes), and a bundle of all of the current Alpha Flag and Untitled SF issues (at a discount with an added bonus sketch).
If you’re interested in those, I’ll be selling them for the next two or so weeks (or while supplies last on the Beyonds) to lighten my suitcase for my trip back the Europe. If you’re over on the Old Continent, give it a month or so and I can get you some better shipping rates.
So over the weekend we switched over to the new site. It’s running on more modern code now, and with that comes new features! I wanted to point out a few to you guys:
There’s now a page dedicated to Aspects under the About entry in the menubar. It should be more convenient than constantly having to swap back and forth between the comic and wikipedia, like some of you have done in the past. All of their appearances are now tagged in each page. I mostly built it off of Known facts so far in the comics, and from a few of your (scarily accurate) guesses. Pictures of the aspects as they appear in the comic are still going to be obfuscated (with a mouseover) behind their flags if you don’t want any sort of spoilers in that area.
I’ve also left the comments section open there for you guys to use how you see fit. I also included a few shreds of new/unspoken information for you to chew on. It’s not plot-important stuff, but those of you who love speculation might be interested.
In the column of widgets to the right of the blog entries and comments under the comics, there’s a new one called Scheduled Buffer. It tells you what content we have scheduled to post, and a date for when it’ll be posted on the site. I know we’ve caused you guys a lot of anxiety with missed updates and slowness in the past, so I wanted to kind of peel back the curtain a little bit an expose ourselves so you can see if we’re on track or not.
Other smaller things like improved keyboard navigation, a cleaner archive, new descriptive copy throughout, social media links, and new comics on my personal site, too. Just general refreshes all around.
So let me know if anything’s broken or not working for you. Otherwise, enjoy! (And see you on Thursday)
New Alpha Flag: March 24th, 2016!
⚓︎ ⚓︎ ⚓︎
Our new chapter, Golf, picks up right where Foxtrot left off, running weekly (fingers crossed!) starting Thursday, March 24th. We’ll post the first story page at midnight. We’d recommend doing a reread of the comic to refresh your memory, ’cause we’re gonna be jumping in with both feet here.
As you might have noticed, we’ve be updated the site, too, so there might be a few bugs that need to be ironed out. Let us know if we’ve nixed any features you relied on, or if something is working weirdly.
We’ve both been touched that you guys still deeply care about the comic even though it’s been so long since we were able to update last, so we’re hoping you’ll enjoy what we have in store for you with the coming chapters. Thanks for your investment in Alpha Flag over the years.
